The 2014 Annual Junior College Kendo Competition Takes Place in the Shao-mo Memorial Gymnasium

The 2014 Annual Junior College Kendo Competition took place on December 13th and 14th in the Shao-mo Memorial Gymnasium. Altogether there was a total of 400 participants made up of 45 national universities. Also in attendance was President Flora Chia-I Chang, Director of the Office of Physical Education of National Taiwan University, Cheng-nan Kang, President of the Republic of China Kendo Association, Hsiang-lo Wu, Deputy Director of the Junior College Kendo Committee, Huang-er Zheng and many honored guests from other universities.

The opening ceremony took place on December 13th at 9:30am and President Chang gave a welcoming address. She stated, “Kendo is a very intricate form of both art and exercise. It teaches the value of respect and humility.” At the end of the opening ceremony, President Chang expressed her thanks for all of the hard work involved to make this event possible. The competition had many different divisions including men and women individual, men and women team and many more, adding up to over a total of 1000 different exciting matches. In the end, TKU and National Tsing Hua University competed in the males championship match. The air was filled with excitement as the cheerleaders along side cheered loudly for the participants. The battle was intense and neither fighter was able to seize the advantage for up to ten minutes. Finally the fighter of Tsing Hua University emerged victorious and TKU took second place in the individual male division.
