Recently the New Taipei City Government has promoted the cooperation of resources of 9 different elementary and junior high schools in the Tamsui Region to create an international academic alliance. This type of inter-campus, professional integration of development resources is something that Tamkang University has been involved with for the last 10 years in its Elementary and Middle School Club Development Program. Each year nearly 300 young students come to campus to learn and develop through various activities. On December 24th the Office of Student Affairs, held a display for the 10th year of this program, showcasing their success and fantastic experiences.
Dean of the Office Student Affairs, Chih-en Ko, stated, “The university’s services curriculum includes three categories: Professional Knowledge and Capable Services, University and Social Services and Club Services. The Professional Knowledge and Capable Services program is designed to use a holistic approach letting students apply their learned knowledge in a professional setting. The University and Social Service program gets students involved with keeping the environment sanitary through assisting with environmental cleaning and protection services. The Club Services program lets students participate in jobs both on and off campus in order to develop their skills. I’m grateful for the time that these groups have spent over the years, serving our community.”
Second year student of the Department of International Business Management, Ying-ying Wei, stated, “Honestly I really didn’t want to deal with a lot of the services for helping children in the beginning. I had to wake up early in the morning and hear students saying ‘Teacher I have no fingernails’ or ‘Teacher help me with my diaper.’ But after time passed, I began to see I was really helping them grow and develop and it’s been a very rewarding experience.”
