The College of Science’s “Ke Jian (Bright Light) Science Service Team” will offer their services to 6 different middle schools in Tainan from January 28th to the 31st. Under the leadership of Dean of the College of Science, Bo-cheng Wang, the students will be giving instruction in areas such as mathematics, biology, chemistry and astronomy. The goal of the trip is to arm youth with skills that will benefit them in the future while stimulating their interest in science.
A member of the Bright Light Service Team and third year student of the Department of Mathematics, Jia-cheng Liu, expressed, “To be a part of this team you have to be professional and energetic. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to share the information we’ve learned to help others. We use very interesting methods to grab the attention of the students and help them explore the world of science. It will certainly make students take a more active position in their studies in the future.”
The four day schedule is divided into biology, chemistry, mathematics and astronomy. In the morning the students will study information and theories and in the afternoon they will have activities to help reaffirm their learning. They will also be able to watch news reports, films and play games to help them have a better visual understanding. At the end of the event they will play a competitive game that will test the skills that they have learned. A student and member on the Bright Light Science Service Team who participated in this event last year, Hui-lun Chen, stated, “They really learn a lot of information in only 4 days. Both the younger and older students gain a lot of new knowledge and it’s a memory that lasts forever.”
