50 academic years ago Tamkang University began holding the “Danhai Comrades,” workshop, always held 5 days before the freshmen students’ arrival. The workshop is aimed to help student group leaders develop in areas such as independent thinking, group cooperation and the ability to handle a crisis. It also serves to help the student clubs develop in terms of diversity while expanding the culture and spirit of the university.
This year the training workshop took place from August 24th to the 28th with 232 students in attendance. One of the club leaders and fourth year student of the Department of Chinese Language, Yi-xiu Cai, expressed, “This is the 50th year of this workshop and every year it is even more packed with knowledge and useful information. The objective is for all of us to be able to surpass ourselves.”
The Director of the Extracurricular Activities Guidance Section, Ruey-er Chen, expressed, “The student groups involve a multitude of activities from academic, physical, musical, public service, religious, departmental and more. So this event is packed with fun information along with the sharing of the many achievements awarded over the years. Special guests have been invited to share their experience from fields of the workplace and academic institutions or to share ideas on issues such as the marketplace, gender equality, teamwork, study habits, communication and innovative thinking.”
Softball team captain and fourth-year student of the Department of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering, Guan-yi Li, expressed, “In these 5 days I’ve really absorbed a lot of information. Everyday the curriculum fills students with useful data and anticipation for the possibilities to come. We played cool learning games and peered into the details of how to improve our services.”
