TA's Learn to Teach to Learn

The Center for Learning and Teaching held the annual Assistant Extended TA Training Summer Camp from September 1st-3rd on Tamsui Campus and Miaoli’s Shangrila. This event was planned by the Chinese Recreation Guidance Association, which utilized guest speakers, mobile learning and group exchanges as effective methods of instruction. The student TA’s-in-training were engulfed as each speaker covered issues related to their own development, especially as one speaker pointed out the need to utilize individual talents and abilities for better service results.

“You must utilize a method for effective learning so that you can teach others to learn more effectively.” Executive Director of the Center for Learning and Teaching, Hui-ling Pan, expressed to the new university members at the start of the event. After the new members were sworn in, Professor Jian-zhi Chiu gave a lecture titled, “How to Become an Outstanding TA.” It highlighted that student assistants needed to be enthusiastic, helpful, determined and models of exceptionalism. Afterwards the students were divided into teams as they participated in activities involving deep self reflection and analysis.

On September 2nd all of the new members traveled to Miaoli’s Shangrila to attend lectures focused on academic curriculum design and implementation. Some of the points covered in the lecture included Skilled Interaction, Localization Method of Organization, and Structured Curriculum. The speaker reminded students that the atmosphere of the classroom was priority to conduct an effective learning environment.
