Office of the Vice President of International Affairs

On Oct. 31 at 1pm in the Carrie Chang Fine Arts center Vice President of International Affairs, Wan-chin Tai held the first 2015 TEDx TKU annual assembly. This year the theme of the event was titled, “Different,” and featured Program Designer, Joseph Ku, Chief Operating Officer of Niceday, Chien-liang Wu, Co-founder of Justfont, Wei Hsiang Su, Trade Marketing Supervisor of Leishan, Shi-de Lin, Founder of Feng Cheng Blog, Meng-lin Wu and Language Genius and Founder of Multi-language Acquisition Activity Network, Zhi-xiang Xie.

The 6 speakers were given 18 minutes to speak on various topics: Secrets of Learning Languages, A Peek into the Changing Business World, Understanding The Impact of Different Fonts, Using Different Paths to Understand the Culture of Taiwan, Realizing the Language of Machinery into Human Ideas and Finishing Impossible Tasks Without Free Time.

The two curators of the program were Planning Assistant of the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs, Vincent Lu, and second-year student of the Department of English, Zi-heng Hong. The team expressed, “The TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) assembly is a private American organization that encourages different groups throughout the world with experts and specialized speakers in an 18-minute format.” The curator team was evaluated by the TED committee in June and received a yearly licence to hold the event. Within 3 months time they were able to find great speakers to help encourage and inform the members of the university.

First Shi-de Lin spoke on, “Discovering Small Problems can Lead to Great Change in the World.” Joseph Ku discussed, “Everyone can be a Hacker.” Zhi-xiang Xie explained, “Using Different Languages to Cross Barriers.” Wei Hsiang Su discussed, “What is Font?” Chien-liang Wu lectured on, “Why don’t Asians Choose Taiwan for their First Travel Choice?” and Meng-lin Wu discussed, “Accumulating Strength through Working and Dreaming.” Participants were able to gather invaluable information as each expert gave life-changing tips on reflection and self-improvement. Director of the International and Mainland Guidance Section, Yu-hua Chao, stated, “The 2015 Ted and TKU assembly is truly exciting!”
