The Third Tamkang World Forum for Youth Leaders

Office of International and Cross Strait Affairs

On Jan. 19 the Office of International and Cross Strait Affairs (OICSA) held the Third Tamkang World Forum for Youth Leaders, which was themed, “Prospects for the World: Meeting Challenges with Vision.” The issues discussed included Global Democratic Rights, Political Finance, Society, Culture, Peace, Energy, Food and the Environment. The forum consisted of 35 students of 13 different countries and universities.

Vice President of International Affairs, Wan-chin Tai, expressed, “For this third year of the Tamkang World Forum for Youth Leaders we’ve added the number of participating international sister schools to improve the training of Taiwanese and international students. Having the deans of various colleges attend the opening ceremony is a great encouragement for this event. Every year the articles distributed within the forum are better than the previous year as the youth leaders of each country contribute their ideas of global development. This year the participating universities include University of Oxford, Moscow State University, Queensland University of Technology, Dankook University,Kyung Hee University, Bangkok University, L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Kyushu University, Waseda University, Kindai University, Josai University and Akita International University.”

Miles Untereier of the University of Oxford expressed, “This forum is an excellent experience for me!” He gave thanks to Tamkang University students and staff for their effort as he praised the organizing groups for their high level of professionalism. Linda Eggert of the University of Oxford also commented, “This year being able to stay on the university campus is great. It gives us the opportunity to establish better relationships with the students of TKU.” He mentioned that the youth leaders have been able to get a deeper understanding of Taiwan and its culture and really benefit from the professors’ research and shared experiences. Director of OICSA, Pei-wha ChiLee, expressed, “This forum allows for the students of different countries to learn as they exchange different viewpoints of world issues. It gives TKU students a more complete worldview and presents a rare and unique learning opportunity.
