On Mar. 25 the “2015-16 Total Quality Management Workshop” took place in the Student Activity Center on Tamsui Campus. The purpose of the workshop themed, “Change Challenges to Opportunities through Teamwork” was to raise the quality of university members in terms of academics and administration. Dean of the College of Global Development and winner of the 10th Total Quality Management Award, Ay-hwa Andy Liou, was invited to share his experience. In addition Executive Director of Dale Carnegie Training, Gerard Hei, and Executive Vice President of Hung Kuang University, Hung-yee Shu, were invited lecture, giving understanding and depth of the inner workings of successful management.
The entire university team was in attendance, including first and second level administrators with the aim of stimulating growth and effectiveness in a cooperative effort. President Flora Chia-I Chang expressed in her opening address, “The Total Quality Management program has been established at TKU since 1992. Every year we hold this event to sustain and improve the capabilities of our institution. This year we’ve invited honored guests and former awardee of the Total Quality Management Award to share their experience, which I’m certain will be of great benefit both our academic curriculum and methods of administration.”
As Ay-hwa Andy Liou shared his experience, he made emphasis of innovation being the new direction of higher education and the importance of giving personnel a more international perspective. Gerard Hei discussed the impact of teamwork, and that skills and attitude outweigh professional knowledge in terms of effectiveness. He encouraged everyone to see challenges as opportunities for new growth instead of being frustrations or obstacles. Afterwards, the workshop focused on the history of TQM and details of the award system, training and other activities.
