Tamsui is a town infused with over 400 years of history. From its early days as a major Taiwanese port to its current incarnation as a tourist destination, Tamsui has always played a prominent role in the development of the broader Taipei region. The reason Tamsui draws so many tourists is due to its picturesque beauty: its lush, sweeping mountains and its flowing, life-sustaining river. Its current population has already exceeded 150,000.

To celebrate this 400 years of history, the TKU College of Liberal Arts integrated the skills of students in its various departments to chronicle the past of the Greater Tamsui region. Known as the “Chronicles of the Greater Tamsui Region”, the project comprised video and written material that captured interviews with 10 of Tamsui’s prominent figures and dignitaries. The documentary shows the process of growing in Tamsui for each of these ten subjects, who are currently working in Tamsui in the area of politics, commerce, culture, education, or history.

In honor of the project, on June 22 the College of Liberal Arts held a presentation ceremony, in which the ten separate interviews were broadcast, and each of the participants spoke about their own personal connection with Tamsui.
