Opening Ceremony Held for 2013 Executive Master's Program of Business Administration

The 2013 opening ceremony for the Executive Master's Program of Business Administration (EMBA) program welcoming new Business and Management master’s students was held September 9th at 10am in room D221 of the CKS Memorial Hall in Taipei. Teachers and students from the nine departments in the College of Business and Management offering the EMBA program gathered at the event. The warm atmosphere was packed with more than 250 people.

President Flora Chia-I Chang, Vice President for Academic Affairs Yu Gwo-Hsing and College of Business and Management Dean Chiu Chien-Liang warmly welcomed the guests and asked for their kind guidance and suggestions. From the orientation of an analysis and discussion of trends in higher education and global development, President Chang encouraged EMBA students to focus on practical experience, language skills and the accumulation of contacts, exhorting the new students to reap a harvest rich in academic success and networked connections from their future learning. President Chang expressed certainty regarding the growth and efforts of the EMBA program, also hoping the EMBA course focuses even more on practicality and that thesis papers have a practical orientation. The president also stressed the importance of cultivating one’s English skills, interpersonal relationships and teacher-student interaction. Lastly, she pointed out that a cohesive team spirit shared by students and teachers can result from combining curriculum and competitive performance activities. Dean Chiu especially presented an exquisite glazed ceramic award during the event to Section Chief Pan Wen-Chin of the General Affairs Section at the TKU Taipei campus, thanking her for carefully maintaining the EMBA learning environment and hardware facilities for many years. Awards were then presented by each of the department heads in recognition of the academic performance of three students in each department from the previous semester. EMBA Executive Director Lin Chiang-Feng introduced the EMBA classes and the TKU Taipei campus environment in more detail for the new students attending the day’s event who are filled with expectations for the student life that is about to unfold.

The EMBA softball team and Joint MBA Alumni Association also came to the event to recruit new blood in the hope that younger students can also become Tamkangians that are both scholars and warriors, and that this fine tradition will continue to be passed on for future generations to carry forward. The dynamic EMBA softball team has only been recently established, but under the leadership of team captain Liu Kunqi, the team has actively pursued the goal of winning in the national EMBA softball league. The elite gathering of the Joint MBA Alumni Association has an extensive network of contacts at home and abroad through senior alumni from all walks of life, and the Association’s golf team is also an excellent fitness exchange choice for Tamkangians.

At the conclusion of the opening ceremony, all the teachers and students joined in together to sing the school anthem. Afterwards, assistants from the various departments also made advance arrangements for each department’s orientation seminar. The new students who attended the event all enjoyed a very rewarding weekend.
