In Taiwan the number of university students is continually declining. According to a statistical poll, it is estimated that this decrease of university students in Taiwan will become even more severe from the years 2016 to 2019. It is estimated that this enrollment decline will impact universities in Taiwan on a large scale. Because of this continuing trend, the Office of Academic Affairs has put forth the “High School Advancement Plan” This project entails sending a representative from every department to a different high school in order to heighten student awareness and increase enrollment at TKU.

In addition, the “Entrance Enrollment Distribution Policy” has impacted the student enrollment numbers at TKU in a positive way, but the majority of newly enrolled students mostly stem from the southern region of Taiwan. Of the three regions: North, South and Central, the southern area accounts for 65 percent of TKU new student enrollment. Central Taiwan is ranked third probably due to the similarity of the colleges located in the area. When confronted with a choice of moving away from home or studying at a local university, students prefer to stay closer to their families. The “High School Advancement Plan” has been initiated to stimulate the interest of students in other regions in order to diversify TKU’s new student enrollment.

The departments that have been most successful in attracting new students are Chinese Language, Mass Communication and Insurance. Activities continually take place on campus, inviting students from high schools to take tours and participate in recruitment activities, hopefully spreading the TKU spirit of excellence into their hearts.
