There is no need for a bell to ring to indicate to students that class is over for online courses or through the use of the Cloud system. Now students can be completely in control of their class schedule and curriculum. According to a statistics teacher it would take 240 years to teach all of the information involved in a “Machine Learning” curriculum. Yet through new technological advances, students can receive classroom information from America, China and India all at the same time. This new revolution is called Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC), and it’s available all over the globe.

The National Science Council, the Ministry of Education, the Financial Department, the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, the Institute for Information Industry and TKU’s Language Teaching and Research Center came together to establish the “Alliance Of Taiwan Educational Clouds (ATEC). The Director of the Language Teaching and Research Center, Ching-hwa Kuo, expressed, “In the future ATEC will utilize academic materials and curriculums from all over the world to develop a new, structured model of education. The Institute for Information Industry will create an educational platform that can be accessed by the public.

According to statistics, 74 percent of Taiwanese professors need assistance with creating a more international curriculum and 40 percent of professors need help with expanding educational services. It is perfect timing for ATEC to help Taiwan develop a globalized educational system and it’s estimated that by the end of 2014, this alliance will have created over 50 different online academic courses. Former President, Louis R. Chow, stated, “The nation has been actively involved in technological education and innovative study methods. With our combined efforts and diligence we will be able to preserve a great amount of Taiwanese culture which will have profound impact on the future of Taiwan.”
