Lights Wishes and Gratitude Festival Takes Place at TKU

Once again Christmas is just around the corner and the atmosphere is filled with Christmas cheer. Christmas activities are taking place along with shopping specials and every restaurant is filled with delightful decorations. Tamkang campus is no exception as it has already been littered with lights, snowmen and star-shaped lanterns. The cheerful atmosphere has been created to bring the promise of a smooth and successful new year, wishing all of the men and women on campus happy holidays.

In previous years, many of the decorations took place in the parking lot at the front of the College of Education and not in the Recreation and Culture Area. But because the decorations cluttered the parking lot, it created a great inconvenience for both students and teachers. So by request it was moved to the Recreation and Culture Area, which has received praise by many for its romantic and homey atmosphere as it is decorated for the "Lights Wishes and Gratitude Festival." Ruey-er Chen, from the Office of International Affairs, stated,”The beautiful lamps light up the street and warm up your heart. The night before hanging up the lights I requested some students right out some small cards expressing Christmas cheer. I was surprised that we received over 1000 different letters showing good wishes, gratitude and affectionate thoughts.”

While hanging up the decorations, President Chia-I Chang complimented the students on their great effort and development over the years. She expressed,“I anticipate the year of the Horse will bring great luck to everyone.” Then she read her Christmas wishes along with Vice President of Administration, Po-yuan Kao and Vice President of International Affairs Wan-Chin Tai. In the end, everyone counted down as the area exploded into a glow of Christmas colors. Taiwan may not be able to experience snow, but they certainly have captured the Christmas spirit here at TKU.
