On March 22nd and 23rd Tamkang University students participated in the Executive Yuan youth development program titled, “The 2014 Autonomous Student Organization Achievements Competition” held by National Sun Yat-sen University. TKU has stood out in this competition since 2012 and has successfully been honored with awards of outstanding achievements for three years in a row. This year they were awarded with “The Certificate of High Distinction.” Dean of Student Affairs, Chih-en Ko, stated, “Receiving this award is not only a great encouragement for student groups, it’s a return on all of the time and energy they have invested. Only the participants really understand the meaning of this award.”

Every year the Ministry of Education holds this activity to learn, promote and share the development of youth in junior colleges and their achievements. The outstanding student organizations are recognized for their achievements and are able to meet and learn from each other as a way to recharge their batteries. A member of the Extracurricular Activities Guidance Section, Yun-chun Liu, stated, “For the students to receive an award, all of the case files have to be organized and laid out in the most logical and appropriate fashion. They also have to have great emphasis on their understanding of student rights while expressing the distinguishing characteristics of their school.”

A student from the Extracurricular Activities Guidance Section, Yi-ting Li, stated, “Our university has been promoting the concept of autonomous student groups for 19 years, always advertising related group activities. We are made aware of student rights and for winter vacation we offer services to schools in the country and for children all over Taiwan. In the competition it feels like second nature to really do the best that we can.”
