In life taking risks will add color and flavor to your experience. 40 students have returned from an over 1000-kilometer bike ride around the island of Taiwan, taking a total of 10 tens. They braved through some troubling weather conditions, but absorbed the beautiful geography and culture of Taiwan. Third-year student of the Department of Economics, Qing Zhong stated, “We live in a society that people are addicted to online relationships. But to truly expand your horizons, you must go out and have personal contact with the community.” Third-year student from the Department of Electrical Engineering stated, “This will easily be one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. All of the scenery was beautiful, including the individuals that rooted for us on along the road.”

The trip took place on March 28th after the particpants took a group photo with Vice President of Administration, Po-yuan Kao. Dean of the Extracurricular Activities Guidance Section, Su-kuan Chiang, stated, “Our desire from the guidance section is to create group unity, which is an important factor of health and happiness. In order to make this particular trip even more meaningful, the student bikers also offered their volunteer study services to the Xi Luo Xin Yi Orphanage. They helped to give the children an exciting and fulfilling experience that will stay with them for a lifetime.”

Two years ago there was another TKU bike tour that travelled through over 30 different cities in Taiwan. At the time Qing Zhong saw some young children from an orphanage playing ball. She asked what their favorite subject was and was shocked to find out that they weren’t taking any classes. She then left the young children with a card saying, “Never Give Up.” Now on this tour she returned with a team to offer her study services.

Su-kuan Chiang, stated, “Although the scenery was quite beautiful, the road was very challenging in many areas. The many steep hills and mountainous areas really caused the muscles in the thighs too burn. It was such a feeling of achievement when all of the students passed through the most difficult part and finally arrived to the east side of the island.”
