Last week the Office of Academic Affairs held a cross-cultural event themed, “Super Taste.” The students brought snacks and cultural artifacts representing the different areas from all over Taiwan for an exchange to promote culture. This activity is a student collaboration designed to represent the 30,000 students and almost 1,500 international students. This opportunity let students explore all of the regions of Taiwan without having to travel a great distance.

Supervisor of this event and member of the Extracurricular Activities Guidance Section, I-ting Li, stated, “These students that are made up of 15 different alumni groups representing a variety of different cultures, have come together to sustain the culture and heritage of Taiwan by sharing snacks and artifacts. This event is designed to show people both nationally and internationally the essence and uniqueness of Taiwan.” Deputy Director of the event and second year student of the Department of Economics, Shi-ting Hong stated, “This entire event is the collaboration of all the different alumni group leaders. It took 4 months for us to finish all of the preparations for our objective. I’m so grateful to everyone involved for their effort and support. I hope that our work will be sufficient to give all of the participants a special and memorable time.

Hai Bao Street on Tamkang Campus was filled with enthusiasm and cultural goodies. The students of each alumni group wholeheartedly shared and expressed the culture from their hometown: samples, snacks and artifacts of all kinds passed back and forth to familiarize students and teachers alike. Shi-ting Hong stated, “All of the different alumni shops have had excellent sales in only three days.” Second year Malaysian Student of the Department of Public Administration, Jia-xing He, stated, “Seeing all of the different culture in Taiwan is quite eye-opening. It has made me aware of the abundance of tourism resources that are here. It is also quite obvious that the students have put a lot of effort into creating such a lovely atmosphere for everyone to enjoy. They have done an excellent job. I especially like many of the handmade crafts that are so intricate and detailed.”
