In recent years there have been lots of controversial changes in the Asian Pacific region from emergence of Chinese economic power, North Korea’s development of nuclear weapons, Taiwanese fishing rights, and the deployment of military vessels. All of these events have raised critical questions of safety, awareness and the strategic standpoint of Taiwan. What is the role of Taiwan in the Asia Pacific and how does it preserve and protect its way of life?

Dean of the Graduate Institute of International Affairs and Strategic Studies, Ming-Hsien Wong, stated, “Because of all of the recent changes in the Asian Pacific situation, we’ve held a three-day political meeting called the 2014 Tamkang Strategic Studies Conference.” During this three-day interactive forum, professors, administrators and alumni from departments of history, technology, international affairs and strategic studies will exchange various related books, documents and dissertations concerning Taiwan’s role in the event of a crisis.

The first day of the discussion was themed around National Strategic Studies Masters’ and Doctoral Dissertation Group Discussion. This discussion was divided into 15 parts that covered safety measures in a crisis, strategic research, international relationship management, Chinese military diplomatic research, etc. The second day the discussion entailed, “China’s Military Capability and the Security Situation in Taiwan Strait. This meeting was graced with the input of international experts from America, Korea, Japan and Singapore. They also had a detailed discussion of the Regional Responses to China’s Military Growth. On the final day of the conference, the discussion revolved around National Security Strategy and Concepts.
