The College of Business and Management received strong support from 3DFamily Technology Co., Ltd., which donated 100 sets of VisLab AI image modeling software valued at over NT$40 million. The donation ceremony took place on September 20 at Hsu Shou-Chien International Conference Center. 3DFamily Technology Chairman Hakiem Hsu hoped that Tamkang students would fully use AI tools to enhance practical applications. Attendees included Vice President for Academic Affairs Hui-Huang Hsu, Dean of the College of Business and Management Li-Ren Yang, department chairs, EMBA Executive Director Chia-Chi Sun, Dean of Financial Affairs Ku-Jun Lin, and directors of various research centers, all expressing their gratitude to Hakiem Hsu for his generous donation.
Department Chair of Banking and Finance Yun-Yung Lin stated that the software would be installed in classroom B1012 for students to operate and learn hands-on. Hakiem Hsu emphasized that AI is the direction of development for the coming decades and can be applied across all industries. Hakiem Hsu’s donation will greatly enhance AI education, allowing students to build AI models, which will benefit their competitiveness in future workplace. “Especially in image recognition, this can improve accuracy, as seen with the university's license plate recognition system, which operates smoothly.”
Although Hakiem Hsu is not an alumnus of Tamkang University, he was introduced by Adjunct Assistant Professor Ming-Jui Hsieh from the Department of Banking and Finance. Impressed by the university’s AI teaching philosophy and achievements, Hsu not only donated 100 AI image recognition software packages for free but also plans to hold training courses to guide faculty and students in software operation, lesson plan development, and teaching material creation. He highly praised Tamkang's proactive promotion of AI education and mentioned that AI can now forecast weather, predict earthquakes, analyze bird calls, enhance drone computing power, and even provide health analysis through AI Hua Tuo. He also wanted to collaborate with the university’s College of Precision Health to offer personalized exercise and dietary plans based on individual health data.
VisLab is an AI model training software suite independently developed by 3DFamily Technology. It can be applied across various industries, and its user-friendly visual interface allows teachers and students who have no programming experience or are unfamiliar with AI databases to easily use it. With this modular package, students can create simulation systems even without programming skills, and teachers can use VisLab to help students understand the structure and concepts of AI image recognition systems. Students can select their own topics for project-based courses and develop new AI systems.
Hakiem Hsu emphasized that although the system was expensive to develop, he is willing to provide the best and latest software to Tamkang students. He hopes this initiative will spark interest in AI learning, cultivate students’ data literacy, and enhance their competitiveness in the job market. “In the future, whoever can effectively manage data in every industry will be the next generation’s winner,” he stated. Accompanying him was 3DFamily Technology’s Assistant Marketing Manager, Chien-Feng Cheng, an alumnus of Tamkang University’s Department of Accounting and a top-rated lecturer at the company. He fondly recalled choosing Tamkang’s beautiful campus in Tamsui for his wedding photos and is eager to return to his alma mater to share the details of the software’s educational training.
