Over the years, typically students have found it increasingly difficult to find employment after graduating. While studying at the university can give students important academic knowledge, many employers have found the information that students obtain at universities is non-applicable. This has caused many universities to begin cooperating with industrial companies in the creation of a more career-related curriculum. For many years, graduate students at this university have worked with four major accounting firms: Deloitte, Pricewaterhouse Taiwan (PwC Taiwan), KPMG Advisory Service, and Ernst and Young. Through recruitment on campus programs not only has our student employment rate risen significantly, you could almost say employment is a guarantee. On the 16th of November in the Tamkang Student Activity Center a celebration was held for the 50th year of this successful relationship of academics and employment consultation.

This university has long been working with companies to ensure the employment capabilities of graduating students. Department director, Bao-Guang Chang expressed, “For students to have an ensured future of employment they must be educated in Personal Finance, Industrial Management, Government Operations and International Industries.” A strong industrial curriculum has been designed for the needs of students to function effectively in their future career. This curriculum gives them the fundamental skills related to accounting, tax law, government accounting and management that employers are seeking for the advancement of their company.”

Director Chang further emphasized that the tight knitting of student curriculum with professional application will not benefit the students, but also strengthen TKU’s educational system. Every year new software must be utilize by students in order for them to adapt to the continually growing and changing industries.

At the 50th anniversary celebration Yang-ching Chao, chairwoman of the Financial Information Service Co., remembered studying these programs under much stricter circumstances. She stated, “At that time we didn’t have any translations for any of the subject matter so all of the students had to continually search the dictionary for the meanings of difficult terminology. It was a painstaking process, but it simultaneously increased students’ financial and language skills. I want to thank the teachers for not going easy on us because the world of finance will always be an international industry.”

Professor Cheng-Li Huang of the Accounting Department expressed her appreciation for the returning alumni and everyone involved in promoting this 50th year anniversary celebration. “It is an enthusiastic atmosphere with dancing, karaoke and traditional ceremonies. Over 500 members have come together to celebrate and share their personal knowledge and experience. In my heart I know there is no place like TKU.”
