From Jan 14-18, Tamkang University was home to The East and West Culture Forum for Cross-Strait Youths, an event organized by the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs (OICSA). The OICSA invited students from TKU's sister universities in Mainland China to take part in exchange and interaction with local TKU students, with an overall attendance of close 50 teachers and students. The Forum featured an opening speech on Jan 15 by the Vice President for International Affairs, Dr. Kao-Cheng Wang, who welcomed the visitors, stating that “the event is now in its tenth year, and has been extremely helpful in promoting cross-Strait communication and exchange.” He also expressed his hope that the event would continue to be held well into the future, allowing students from both sides of the Taiwan Strait to closely examine and understand differences in Eastern and Western culture.

The event featured presentations of short papers centering on the themes of “Eastern and Western literature,” “Eastern and Western ideological trends,” “social development,” and “trade and culture.” A total of 18 papers were presented. Participating universities included Shandong University, Renmin University of China, Beihang University, Jilin University, Northeast Normal University, Nanjing University, Harbin Institute of Technology, and Chongqing University.
