The Center for European Union Studies held the 7th annual European Union Winter Workshop on January 27th and 28th in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall. This year’s topic was the European Union’s role globally and they invited Director from the European Economic and Trade Office, Frédéric Laplanche, to give a lecture. Leading the event was Dean of the College of International Studies, Kao-cheng Wang, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages and Literature, Hsi-deh Wu and Director of the Center for European Union Studies, Li-chuan Chen, who held five different courses revolving around European Union diplomacy, economic strategy, politics, culture and lifestyle.

The workshop began by introducing the relationship between the European Union and Taiwan as well as the responsibilities of the European Economic and Trade Office in Taiwan. The workshop used innovative activities to educate participants of the governing methods of the European Union, allowing students to have fun creating alliances modeling and imitating what they learned. Also senior fashion editor from Marie Claire Magazine, Yu Gwen, and marketing speaker, Cui Han, were invited to join the discussion of European fashion.

Fourth-year student of the Department of German language, Bo-cheng Xu, expressed, “Not only did this workshop give me a better understanding of Europe, but it also gave me a better understanding of how Europe interacts with the world on a global level. I really got a lot out of this workshop and even though I’m currently a senior, when I graduate, I plan on attending similar workshops that will help me expand my understanding of the international world.”
