In order to encourage kindness to disabled individuals in businesses, organizations and factories, the New Taipei City government held a special award ceremony on November 29th. This “Caring Hearts for the Disabled Event” included 23 different companies and once again Tamkang University was the only academic institute that was invited.

President Chia-I Chang stated, “We will continue to reach out for disabled persons seeking employment, as well as continue to actively develop a suitable environment on campus for disabled individuals. Through working with the resources provided by New Taipei City government, we will be able to provide even better facilities for our disabled staff.

Since the 1950’s people began paying attention to the needs of disabled people in public areas. Laws were passed in Japan, Europe and America to make companies adopted facilities that were more suitable for the needs of the handicapped. For the last ten years this university has developed an environment that is more disabled-friendly with the assistance of the government. Other policies such as the “Friendly Campus Act” have helped to create an awareness to the benefits and equality of disabled students and staff, making it increasingly more convenient for them. From the year 2006 to 2013, TKU has received 315,000,000 NT in government funding for the support of the disabled. There have also been many regulations passed to ensure the respect and fairness of all disabled individuals on campus.
