UNESCO designated April 24 as World Reading Day, a day when countries around the world hold celebratory activities related to reading. Over the past 14 years, the TKU Chueh Sheng Memorial Library has been holding reading events to coincide with international World Reading Day and in recent years has branched out, working with TKU departments and student clubs to incorporate library resources into student learning and campus life.
The opening ceremony for World Reading Day at the Chueh Sheng Memorial Library, Tamsui Campus, was held April 30, and was attended by the Tamkang University chairperson, president, vice president, several first-level managers, as well as faculty and students.
At the opening ceremony, the Dean of the Chueh-Sheng Memorial Library, Song Sheue-fang, explained that, starting from 2015, TKU's World Reading Day activities have been based on the theme "Reading, Traveling, and a Love of Sharing", and each year it selects a different country around which the activities are centered. This year it chose France, a country which has spawned a prodigious number of Nobel literature winners.
